Description

An Andalite from the popular book series Animorphs, by K.A. Applegate. Though they are pictured on book covers, I made a few adjustments of what I imagined an Andalite to be.

Andalites are the 'good-guy' aliens in Animorphs, battling the brain controlling Yeerks in an intergalatic war. They are also the aliens who invented the morphing technology which the Animorphs use to change into their various animal forms. They are an arrogant species, often looking down on any race not as technologically advanced as they are.

They're described as humanoid from the waste up, with a deer-like body below. They're arms are thinner and weaker than a humans, but have many fingered hands (7 fingers each). Cover pictures show Andalites with humanoid hands, but with fingers continuing past the pinky. I thought this looked awkward, unwieldy, and rather unimaginative, so I gave my version two thumbs instead, which in my opinion serves more purpose and allows them a better grip.

Their heads are supposed to be human-like, but with stalk eyes that look every-which way that make it nearly impossible to sneak up on one. Their 'main' eyes are also larger, and more almond shaped than a humans. They also have no mouth, having 3 nostril slits instead. Cover pictures show Andalites with human-like jaws. I found this silly, as jaw-bones are meant for, well... jaws. Andalites have no use for muscles in that area and thus no use for bone matter with which to attach. So his jaw is somewhat sunken in.

Andalites feed with their feet, crushing plant matter and absorbing nutrients directly. Because of this I imagine they have little need for stomachs, or at least a digestive system nowhere near as complicated as a deer or other grazer. So I made him very lean and skinny in appearance.

So long story short, this is my version of an Andalite :)

I have always felt the same way about the jaw line; in the Andalite Chronicles, Elfangor described humans as being more rounded to his triangular "jawline". Also, I was watching the Thing prequel, it is not a popular film as far as enthusiasts of the original or horror go but it had plenty of food for the imagination in that I felt Andalites feeding by absorption may have been similar but only through the hooves.
